Mobilising change

How do we plan and prepare for change?

"Without strategy, execution is aimless" (Morris Chang).

  • Before you start mobilising a change effort, some planning is highly recommended and should address the following questions.

    • what is changing and what type of change is to be implemented?

    • what is driving the need for change?

    • who needs to be involved in the change?

    • who will be impacted by the change?

    • what are the risks and impacts of the change?

    • what are the desired outcomes of change and how will we know what good looks like?

  • The planning process should result in an overarching change strategy and detailed supporting plans outlining how you will get from where you are today (current state) to where you want to be at the end of the change effort (future state).

  • Get in touch if you need some help to plan your change effort. We can help you develop a comprehensive change strategy and detailed supporting plans covering all change activities and stages following a structured change management methodology.

How do we resource change implementation?

"Without execution, strategy is useless" (Morris Chang)

  • The best way to resource a change initiative depends on the type and scope of the change effort and available budget.

  • Large and complex change initiatives will generally justify dedicated change resourcing, whilst smaller, less complex change may only get part-time change resourcing or need to be resourced entirely within existing business as usual teams who may or may not have change capacity or capability.

  • In situations where budgets don't permit dedicated change managers, strong buy-in and ownership amongst stakeholders to be impacted by change together with good change leadership can be the difference between success and failure, and a process that helps people to self organise and implement may be a good option.

  • Don't let your well made change strategy fall by the wayside because the organisation doesn't have enough budget for dedicated change resources. Get in touch if you would like to explore alternative options for maintaining momentum and getting your much needed change work done.
