LDP Profile

What is the Leadership Development Profile (LDP)?

The Leadership Development Profile:

  • is a highly validated instrument proposing nine distinct forms of meaning making on a continuous developmental spectrum with each stage comprising specific opportunities and challenges.

  • helps you understand where you are placing your attention, how you are currently making meaning of your experiences, and how this is informing and shaping yourapproach and behaviour in work, and life more broadly.

  • will help expand your meaning making in leadership and in life so you can attend to increasingly complex and nuanced challenges and issues.

We are authorised to use Harthill's Leadership Development Profile with coaching clients, and use it in the coaching process to ensure development - your development journey and current development needs - is situated at the centre of the coaching conversation.

Why use the Leadership Development Profile (LDP)?

Development approaches have traditionally focussed on adding more and more content - information, skills, methodologies, tools, and competencies - to leaders' already burgeoning toolkits. This is known as horizontal development.

In contrast, vertical development focus on capacity and improving and expanding how leaders think and make meaning and sense of their world.

Development moves through distinct stages, which both include and transcend previous stages, opening the door to more nuanced and complex decision making capability.

In increasingly complex and fast paced environments, the best development approaches aim to develop leaders both vertically and horizontally.

"The Harthill Leadership Development Profile (LDP) deepened my understanding into my meaning making patterns and how I perceive the world and show up."

How is the LDP Profile used in coaching?

The process is as follows:

  • A Leadership Development Profile (LDP) is optional extra component of a coaching engagement.

  • If you would like an LDP Profile, we will commission it on your behalf from the provider (Harthill UK) and facilitate the process to help you complete it - it's a relatively short process involving an online questionnaire that requires about an hour of focussed attention.

  • Once your personal LDP Profile Report is ready (it takes about 2 weeks), we will send it to you, give you some time to digest the contents and then arrange a time with you to debrief it - this will take about 90 minutes and can be incorporated into the coaching process or be entirely separate.

  • After the debrief, we can help further explore the developmental implications for you and potential development next steps to help embed and integrate your insights and learning.
